 Spirogya is a filamentous alga. Its cells form long, thin strands that, in vast numbers, contribute to the familiar green, slimy 'blanket weed' in ponds. Seen under the microscope, each filament consists of an extensive chain of identical cells. © Copyright D G Mackean |
